Stanisława Kowalewska

Weaving, Knitting ,and Sewing

Stanisława Kowalewska is a master weaver with decades of experience. Her mother and grandmother weaved on the loom and she has learned the craft from them. She’s been practising it since she graduated from elementary school.  She makes perebory fabrics and uses botton and wool threads, predominantly of black and red colour.
She makes women’s and men’s shirts, tablecloths, runners, doilies. Since 1990, she has been a member of Folk Artists’ Association. She has received many awards, in 2009 she received the Honorary Badge, The Order of Merit for Polish Culture and in 2013 the Oskar Kolberg Award.

Perebory – the Bug River region weaving traditions were entered into the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
