Józef and Karol Lasik

Sculpture, Toy making

He comes from Stryszawa which is a well-known toy making centre in Poland. He made his works when he was around 9-10 years old, but only at 23 did he trully begin his adventure with sculpting. He makes wooden toys and sculptures. To make them he uses pine and lime wood. The products are painted using acrylic paints and aqueous lacquer.  His works have varied themes. They are mostly animals (horses, donkeys, kittens, cows, birds etc), also thise which can move – birds, hens, storks with flapping wings, klepok, carts, angels, sacral sculpture and nativity scenes.

Józef Lasik is a winner of many awards and distinctions. He took third place in the category “traditional folk toy” at the 5th International Competition of  toy and Decorative Forms ” Fantastic Fauna and Flora” 2002, received an award of distinction in the category “traditional folk toy” at the 4th International Toy Competition “The friends of our Childhood” in 2001, an award of distrinction at the 1st International Toy Competition “Horses” in 1988, an award of distinction at the 1st National Folk toy competition, organized by the Museum of Toys in Kielce in 1995. Aside from taking part in many competitions, Józef also participates in folk art exhibitions.
