Jan Kudrewicz
Ceramics and pottery
Jan comes from Czarna Wieś Kościelna in Podlasie, a village of pottery traditions that is famous for its “siwaki”. These are non-glazed utensils that, depending on the clay used during firing without oxygen, take on various shades of grey. He uses this method to make vases, jugs, double jugs and pots, cannisters and glazed siwaki. Siwaki are rubbed by hand using flint to give them polish and bisque is added to make a colourful pattern. Mr Kudrewicz is a member of Folk Artists’ Association. He has won many awards.
