Gitana Navickienė was born in 1976 in Lithuania. She currently lives in Vilnius. She has been painting pysanky since she was a child. She has learned the techniques of decorating eggs from her aunt – her mother’s sister. She has been actively practising this art since 2012. She takes part in folk art exhibitions and fairs. Pysanky are a symbol of fertility, awakening of nature and spiritual rebirth. In Lithuania, pysanka has a sacred meaning. The same colorants were used for fabrics and for eggs. In Lithuania, pysanky are most often decorated with wax. She also practices lacemaking and makes fabric toys.
