The City of Bees – film

Directed by: Laila Hodell, Bertel Torne Olsen
Documentary, Denmark, 2004, 30 min

The six-year-old Olivier and his friends join a beekeeper to talk about the lives of honeybees. The film is addressed to kids and presents the wonderful world of bees – their hard work among flowers, hierarchy and secrets of the beehives. Children will learn that only the Queen lays eggs – even up to 2000 per day! They learn about larvae and nursing bees, along with cleaning and building worker bees, and even dancing bees! Bees feed on pollen and flower nectar, and they are always on the lookout for fresh flowers. As they gather the nectar and pollen, they also pollinate the flowers so that they can produce seeds and fruit. They also produce delicious honey or medicinal wax.
