Juliusz Dutkiewicz – photographer from Kolomyia
The exhibition presents the photographs of Juliusz Dutkiewicz who ran his photography studio in Kolomyia. The studio photographs featured at the exhibition date back to 1860-1890 and show Galician ethnic types, mainly Hutsuls, Boykos but also Jews. The main themes of the photographs are traditional costumes and attributes associated with the people portrayed, their profession or social status. The characters (most frequently models) are anonymous and are shown in arranged, dignified poses. They are not individuals but representatives of specific ethnic groups or social classes. The exhibition is presented courtesy of the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw.
