On Bartek the Doctor

“On Bartek the doctor” is a Polish fairy tale, or perhaps it is better to say a tale from the Polish territories because some of its themes and images appear in the tales of our minorities and neighbours. This tale contains a very serious diagnosis about the human fate and the inability to go beyond destiny. Aside from its archaic source, this tale also seems to have Baroque roots. Death, against which all are equal, just and carrying out a higher order of things, recalls beliefs about life and death characteristic for the era. That is why the story will be accompanied by music of Baroque origins.
