Muzikaim
“Muzikaim” is the result of field works conducted by Witek Broda who has been looking for Jewish traces in Polish music. His explorations focused predominantly on village music. It is an instrumental project.
I heard village musicians playing Jewish sounds – lively, foreign, intriguing. Sometimes it was a phrase, sometimes an entire song. Overheard outside the window, learned from a Jewish fiddler, later played at parties and weddings. Kolberg rarely ever jotted down Jewish tunew. For thousands recorded, we will find only a few dozen of them. I collected these themes, pieced together fragments. This is what Jewish music might have been like in the villages of prewar Poland” – says Witek Brode, the author of the project.
