Musicians from Radzięcin and Jędrzejówka – a meeting
Radzięcin and Jędrzejówka are located in the western, the most mountainous part of Roztocze. Until 50s and 60s, they used to be filled with music, song and dance. Here and in the vicinity lived at least 20 successful fiddlers, numerous clarinetists, accordionists as well as many excellent singers and female singers, plus brass orchestras in existence since before the war.
This is what Jadwiga and Marian Sobieski found when they came for a visit in 1950s within the Nationwide Folk Music Collection Project. Among recorded musicians and singers, born between 1882 and 1909, only Anna Malec from Jędrzejówka had a career in “folk” and at festivals in Kazimierze. Judging by the recordings, musical personalities abounded there. The editors of the Roztocze encyclopedia, MuzykaRoztocza.pl have been visiting have been visiting the musicians and their descendants, collecting old photography, anecdotes and memories.
At the meeting we will hear the Brass Orchestra from Goraj, the inheritors of the village bands from Jędrzejówka, Hosznia and Łada.
Agnieszka Szokaluk-Gorczyca and Krzysztof Gorczyca from Towarzystwo dla Natury i Człowieka (Society for Nature and Man) will present archival recordings and photographs and will discuss the meetings they had in Roztocze as well as their efforts to restore traditional music to its place in the local memory.
