Joanna Sławińska Archipelago
The pulse of tradition, the energy of new technologies. The clash of primal vocal energy with electronic sounds and acoustic instruments. Joanna returns to the roots, to the songs of the Eastern borderlands, offering traditional and contemporary lyrics as well as original compositions and Polish and Slavic ritual songs.
Joanna Słowińska is one of the most charismatic personalities in Polish music, a vocalist with great stage presence. Ethno and world music fans know her music inspired by Polish and Slavic traditional music, whereas literary song fans know her audacious interpretations of Zygmunt Konieczny’s works.
She performs with : a band consisting of instrumentalists from Cracow, with Stanisław Slowiński Quintet and the band Muzykanci; she toured most European countries, USA (NY Broadway Symphony Space, Chicago cultural Center), in South america (WOMAD Festival Chile), Asia (Georgia, South Korea). Her next solo albums : “Live in Alchemia” (2005) and “Możesz być (2007) were at the top of the Polish Radio competition for the Folk Phonogram of the Year, and her original album “Możesz być” won this presitigious award. She has won awards at many famous festivals, including Grand Prix and Audience Award at the New Tradition Polish Radio Folk Festival (2004), The Actor’s Song Festival in Wrocław, The SuperOnes of Polish TV Station 1 within the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. In 2014 , the Minister of Culture and National Heritage awarded her the Gloria Artis Medal for merits in service to culture.
