Kanka Franka

Kanka means a source to draw from, a container.  Franek (Racis) is one of the last  Suwałki musicians who has left behind a rich violin repertoire. He passed away in October 2018.  Kanka Franka has been formed to commemorate his memory. The band is a duo of two women – Małgorzata Makowska (pedal accordion) and Magdalena Balewicz (frame drum). The ladies perform traditional music of the Suwałki region, drawn from the repertoire of their teacher, Franciszek Racis. They also play the music they have picked up while travelling around Poland
