The Summer School of Traditional Embroidery – Registration Required
During this year’s Jagiellonian Fair, join us for The Summer School of Traditional Embroidery. The Summer School is a four-day workshop addressed to a group of people wishing to learn more about embroidery.
Embroidery is one very few forms of folk arts and crafts so widely practiced in many regions of Poland. In traditional culture embroidery was used predominantly for decoration. It was used to decorate doilies, tablecloths, table runners and made use of a wide range of motifs, colours and techniques. Until today embroidery is used for decorating traditional clothing that is often presented by folk ensembles. The variety of embroidery and embroidered decorations can be seen in the work of embroiderers from various regions of Poland. Every region has its typical colour palette, floral or geometric motifs, stitches and techniques.
The participants of the Summer School of Traditional embroidery will learn the secrets of embroidery from five selected regions of Poland. Each instructor will help us learn the techniques of hand embroidery where thread and needle are the basic tools. The instructors are: Halina Witkowska –
